Hasan Piker Says America Is 'Most Complicit' in Gaza Under Both Parties
He pointed to U.S. sanctions on the International Criminal Court as one form of political cover.

Streamer Hasan Piker says Israel's war in Gaza depends on Western weapons and diplomatic protection. He called the United States the country most responsible and blamed Democrats and Republicans alike.
"This is precisely the reason why the Western world is complicit. It's precisely the reason why the European Union is complicit and America is certainly the most complicit in this process," Piker said.
Piker made the remarks while reacting to a video by Professor Dave. The video takes apart arguments made in a debate by Destiny, a political streamer who has defended Israel's conduct of the war. Piker calls Israel's actions genocide, which Israel rejects. The International Court of Justice is hearing South Africa's genocide case against Israel but has not ruled on the merits.

"Israel cannot conduct any military exercises without unlimited Western support. They do not have the bullets for it," Piker said. He added that Israel would not have an economy "if the Western world doesn't prop it up."
He blamed the American political class as a whole, not one party. "Democrats, Republicans, they are all directly involved," he said. "It's not just that they had the capacity to intervene and they chose not to, but they offered direct support to Israel."
One example he gave of "permanent political cover" was "sanctioning the International Criminal Court." He also said the international courts face "immense amounts of pressure that they're receiving from the Western governments."
The U.S. Record on Military Aid to Israel
The largest commitment dates to 2016. That year the two governments signed a 10-year memorandum promising $38 billion in military aid for fiscal years 2019 through 2028: $33 billion in Foreign Military Financing grants and $5 billion for missile defense, according to the Congressional Research Service.
Congress added more after the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks. In April 2024, President Joe Biden signed a supplemental spending law that included $3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing for Israel and $4 billion for missile defense, plus $1.2 billion for the Iron Beam laser system, CRS found.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on February 6, 2025, sanctioning ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan. The order called the court's arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant "baseless."
The ICJ case is still at the written-pleadings stage. Israel filed its response in March 2026 and challenged the court's jurisdiction. Under a May 21, 2026, court order, South Africa's reply is due in November 2027 and Israel's rejoinder in May 2029.
How Senate Democrats Have Voted on Arms Sales
The party's voting record has moved toward Piker's position, even though he says both parties are "directly involved." On April 15, 40 senators, all but seven members of the Democratic caucus, backed at least one of two Bernie Sanders resolutions to block arms sales to Israel, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported. The resolutions would have blocked sales of D-9 bulldozers and 1,000-pound bombs. JTA reported that 19 Democrats voted for at least one such resolution in 2024 and that 24 senators did so in 2025.
Where Voters Stand on Israel
A Gallup poll taken February 2 to 16 found that 41 percent of Americans sympathize more with Palestinians and 36 percent more with Israelis. It was the first time since Gallup began asking every year in 2001 that Israelis did not lead.
The parties are far apart. Sixty-five percent of Democrats sympathized more with Palestinians, while 70 percent of Republicans sided more with Israelis. Independents favored Palestinians 41 percent to 30 percent. The numbers come as Republican views on Israel draw new scrutiny on the right.
What Happens Next
The current memorandum covers aid only through fiscal 2028, so the next Congress will have to decide whether to renew it. Whatever it decides, the ICJ case will remain in written pleadings until at least Israel's rejoinder, due in May 2029.
