Democratic Senate candidates swamp GOP rivals in fundraising

Latest News NBC NEWS POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

Democrats are heading into the last weeks before the midterms with a commanding money edge in the Senate battlegrounds. Federal Election Commission filings show Democratic candidates in more than a dozen competitive contests took in $253 million between July and September, versus $56 million for their Republican counterparts. Democrats also outspent them, $300 million to nearly $84 million, though they hold more cash going into October: $87 million against $56 million. NBC News reports that Minnesota is the lone one of its 15 competitive races where a Republican did better than the opponent.

The largest disparities appeared in Texas, Georgia and Ohio. Democrat James Talarico collected $60. 2 million, while Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Republican, got $10. 2 million. Senator Jon Ossoff raised $33. 1 million to Representative Mike Collins's $2. 8 million, and former Senator Sherrod Brown's $23. 1 million dwarfed the $4. 8 million for Senator John Husted.

Republican outside groups have stepped in with hundreds of millions of dollars. Elon Musk contributed another quarter-billion dollars to GOP groups, including $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which sent the same sum to Texas PAC, a vehicle supporting Paxton.
