GOP Lawmaker Calls For Investigation After Rubio Says Ukraine’s Starlink Slowdown ‘Sort Of Happened’

Ohio Republican Rep. Mike Turner, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, is demanding a congressional investigation into degraded Starlink service for Ukraine after Secretary of State Marco Rubio downplayed the problem. Asked on CBS's "Face the Nation" by Margaret Brennan whether Rubio's explanation was sufficient, Turner replied, "Absolutely not.", according to Daily Caller.

Rubio said Saturday, before leaving for India, that nobody directed a slowdown, that it just came about, and that he believed speeds were back. Axios reports Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine's access remains partly restricted, and Ukrainian officials say drone connections now drop at 161 kilometers per hour rather than 400. A White House official denied slowing the service. Turner, pointing to the Institute for the Study of War and Zelenskyy, said coverage is patchy. He suggested unnamed Pentagon personnel may be to blame, stressed that lives are at stake, and asked why Ukraine was cleared to use Starshield, the government-controlled version.

On Russia, Turner said President Donald Trump has the power to put waived sanctions into effect and encouraged him to do so. He also criticized European Union energy purchases from Russia.
