Gretchen Whitmer on working with Trump: ‘I don't go looking for fights, but I don't back down'

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, sat down with Meet the Press for an exclusive interview about how she handles dealing with President Trump. She boiled her approach down to one line: "I don't go looking for fights, but I don't back down." In a separate clip, Whitmer said she believes the country is ready to elect a woman as president, according to NBC News.

The conversation arrives alongside a wave of other midterm coverage. In Ohio, a forecaster has moved the governor's race away from Republicans, while Trump continues to defend an advertisement from Ramaswamy that features the estranged mother of Democratic candidate Amy Acton. Acton has condemned the ad. Separately, Mike Rogers, asked about Trump's description of Abdul El-Sayed as a terrorist, distanced himself from that word and said he has not used it.

Elsewhere, Adam Schiff predicted that Democrats would take both the House and the Senate if the election were held today. A Kansas Democratic candidate for governor is also asking voters to back a record of collaboration.
