House Democrats ask Kimberly Guilfoyle for records related to alleged pay-to-play scheme
House Oversight Committee Democrats are demanding financial records and administration communications from Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U. S. ambassador to Greece, following a Wall Street Journal report that she sought money from a donor in exchange for official favors. Ranking member Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif. , sent the request Thursday and set an Oct. 22 deadline. He wants all of her personal financial records plus two years of messages with the donor, Eric Deters, and with Trump administration figures including FBI Director Kash Patel and former Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to PBS NewsHour.
PBS NewsHour reports that the Journal described Guilfoyle, once engaged to Donald Trump Jr. , as asking Deters for $100,000 to clear a credit card balance before her confirmation hearing. Deters allegedly offered up to $1 million more if she delivered, and she reportedly promised him access. Deters says he wanted introductions to the Justice Department and the IRS, but that she produced nothing, though he has given her $300,000 over time. Her attorney says she was paid for speaking engagements before her nomination and questions whether the messages are genuine.
Garcia warned of public corruption and national security risks.
