‘I Was Duped’: Maine Republican Voter Says Dems Lied To Get Her On Camera

A Maine small-business owner and longtime Republican voter says she was misled into appearing in a streaming ad that attacks Sen. Susan Collins and promotes Democratic challenger Troy Jackson. Kelly Kusnirak, who operates a laundromat near Scarborough, told The Maine Wire she supports Collins and is not backing Jackson in any way. She says a videographer came to her shop last spring and described the filming as work for the Collins campaign, so she agreed to sit down on camera. Months afterward she saw the finished spot and felt, in her words, that she had been duped, according to Daily Wire.

The ad was bought by CFFE PAC, the political arm of a Washington-based group called the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy, and its disclaimer says no candidate authorized it. Kusnirak appears in front of washers and dryers, describing rent and home prices as unaffordable. A graphic then faults Collins for higher costs before Jackson is shown urging a vote for him in November. Kusnirak argues the blame belongs with the Democratic-led legislature in Augusta, where Jackson served six years as Senate president. She maintains Collins consistently puts Maine first.
