ISIS-Inspired Teen Allegedly Plotted To Murder GOP Congressman Behind Sharia-Free Caucus
Federal agents have arrested a 17-year-old in Texas who is accused of plotting to kill Republican Representative Keith Self and to launch an attack in North Texas for ISIS. Federal law enforcement sources told WFAA on Thursday that the FBI made the arrest on Oct. 5. The teenager remains in federal custody, and authorities have not released a name, according to Daily Caller.
WFAA reports that the suspect had recently been radicalized and was already being watched by the FBI, with agents stepping in after the teenager bought a firearm.
Self, who represents Texas' 3rd District, thanked the FBI and other law enforcement in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation, saying the family is safe and the work for constituents continues. "This only strengthens my resolve," Self added.
Opposing Sharia law has been a recurring focus for Self. In September, Self introduced a non-binding congressional resolution denouncing Sharia and opposing its implementation in the United States, and Self co-founded the Sharia-Free Caucus. Self also told WFAA of 25 years in the military and said defending freedom was worth the sacrifice.
