Kimberly Guilfoyle pleaded with major Trump donor to pay her $100G Amex bill: report

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, allegedly pressed a Trump-aligned donor to cover a $100,000 American Express balance for her, according to text messages obtained by The Wall Street Journal. The exchange reportedly took place on July 3, 2025, days ahead of her confirmation hearing, and involved Eric Deters, a Kentucky attorney and former congressional candidate who wanted her help with tax and legal trouble involving the IRS, according to The Independent.

The Journal says Guilfoyle sent Deters payment instructions and urged him to wire the money, claiming it would not appear anywhere else. Deters refused, saying he could not do it without ending his marriage. She pointed to a chance to meet IRS Commissioner Billy Long. Deters, 63, told the paper she had promised loyalty if he paid, but delivered nothing. Elsewhere in the messages she appeared worried about written records, warning that they could cost her the ambassadorship.

Guilfoyle's lawyer, Jesse Binnall, said she disputes the messages' authenticity without giving details. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Greece, declined to comment on the allegations, saying a single source's claim should not be treated as gospel. An embassy official said the Senate had fully vetted and confirmed her.
