Most Americans blame Trump for high prices as his economic approval hits new low, AP-NORC poll shows
Voters are souring on President Donald Trump's stewardship of the economy, and most hold his policies responsible for elevated costs, according to a new Associated Press-NORC poll. Approval of his economic performance has fallen to 26%, its lowest mark yet, and just 17% approve of how he is handling the cost of living. Roughly 7 in 10 say his record on living costs is worse than they expected, including about half of Republicans. The results land weeks ahead of the midterms that will determine control of Congress, as Trump holds a heavy schedule of campaign rallies, according to PBS NewsHour.
The survey found 65% of adults pin ongoing price pressure more on his policies than on forces beyond his control. Still, 67% of Republicans lean the other way and cite outside factors. About half of Americans are highly concerned about affording gasoline, up from 39% in July, and about half worry about food costs. Some 69% say the war with Iran has not been worth it, and 64% think he has gone too far on tariffs. Overall job approval is about 3 in 10. Border security is his strongest issue, with about half approving.
