Rep. Stevens breaks with Dems to endorse Michigan GOP Senate nominee 4:33

Latest News CNN · FOX NEWS POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

CNN · Fox News and NBC News report that Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens of Michigan has endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for the U.S. Senate, a striking move days before Election Day in a race that could decide which party controls the chamber. Stevens appeared alongside Rogers at a church service in Detroit on Sunday, and a Rogers spokesperson, Abby Ronson, confirmed it, according to NBC News.

NBC News says the break followed a public feud with Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, her former primary rival. Stevens had said she expected him to denounce an outside group's advertisement that she called antisemitic. El-Sayed answered that she wanted to refight a primary decided three months earlier. By NBC News's account, his campaign asked her on Saturday to stay away from its events. In a video, Stevens said she did not belong in his campaign.

NBC News adds that Stevens's longtime chief of staff, Justin German, and several other aides are leaving her congressional office over the decision, according to a person familiar with the matter. Its report also says the endorsement's effect is uncertain, since more than 2 million ballots are already in.
