Supreme Court Declines Case On Concealed Carry Across State Lines

Latest News DAILY CALLER POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

The Supreme Court on Monday turned away an appeal from a Minnesota dispute over whether the state must respect gun-carry permits issued elsewhere. Its decision leaves intact a ruling by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals that sided with Minnesota, according to Daily Caller.

Jeffrey Johnson, a long-haul trucker holding valid permits from Florida and Georgia, brought the challenge in January 2025 with representation from the Liberty Justice Center. The defendant was Bob Jacobson, who heads the state's public safety agency. The group filed its petition with the justices on Aug. 24. Attorney Ryan Morrison said a refusal to take up a case does not settle the underlying legal question, and he expressed confidence the issue will return to the Court. He added that Minnesota withholds recognition from permits of 15 other states.

Other cases remain pending. Duncan v. Bonta, over California's limit on magazine capacity of more than ten rounds, has been discussed at a record 24 conferences. The Third Circuit struck down a similar New Jersey law on July 17, creating a split among appeals courts. Splits also surround Maine's three-day waiting period in Beckwith v. Frey and the Daniel Defense v. Lowy petition. The justices next meet Friday.
