These swing voters regret voting for Trump and it's influencing their midterm choices

Latest News NPR POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

Georgia voters who switched from Joe Biden in 2020 to Donald Trump in 2024 are now largely unhappy with their choice, and that sentiment is shaping how they plan to vote in the midterms. Among a dozen such voters in online sessions held Tuesday night, eleven disapproved of Trump's performance and ten regretted backing him. The sessions were part of the Swing Voter Project, which NPR runs monthly with the firms Engagious and Nelson Recruiting. Participants gave only their first names and last initials.

Their complaints ranged widely. Charles P. , a 43-year-old Democrat, pointed to inflation, wars and tariffs. Richard A. , a 56-year-old Republican jobless for ten months, cited food prices, the conflict with Iran and immigration enforcement. Moderator Rich Thau, Engagious's president, said that for the first time this year most participants, seven of twelve, said Trump would push them toward Democratic candidates. Karla S. , a 49-year-old Democrat, said she now intends to vote Democratic across the board. Ten of the twelve plan to support Senator Jon Ossoff.
