Trump Admin Makes Shocking Fraud Discovery While Auditing Migrant Child Sponsors
An internal Health and Human Services memo obtained by Daily Wire indicates that the Trump administration has uncovered widespread fraud among people who took custody of unaccompanied migrant children under President Joe Biden. More than 450,000 such minors entered during that period and were placed with the department's Office of Refugee Resettlement, which was responsible for vetting the adults who received them. Officials say standards were loosened and releases sped up; HHS says nearly all sponsor applications, about 99%, were approved from October 2023 through September 2024.
After Trump took office, ORR staff found 65,000 unanswered reports of possible sponsor fraud in March 2025, some filed by the children themselves. The memo puts intentional document or information fraud at roughly 77% of reported child-level events, and says about 85% of cases reviewed by the general counsel's office involved deliberate document fraud. Sponsors submitted fake IDs, photos, fingerprints and addresses, and some hid household members. Some supposed minors were adults.
ORR official John Fabbricatore, a former ICE official, said the prior administration treated releases like an assembly line.
