Trump orders DOJ probe into Democrats over alleged threats against admin officials
President Donald Trump says he has directed the Justice Department to investigate Democrats who have talked of impeaching Attorney General Todd Blanche and other officials. He announced the order Saturday on Truth Social, days after Democrats won back both chambers of Congress with strong majorities. Trump argued that Democrats are menacing people with impeachment and other punishments while admitting they lack grounds, and he denied any "impeachable acts" by Blanche or others in his administration, according to Fox News.
Since Election Day, Reps. Hank Johnson and Deborah Ross have said they would support removing Blanche. Johnson told SiriusXM's "The Dan Abrams Show" on Thursday that Blanche's offenses merit impeachment, conviction and removal. Ross, appearing afterward, agreed but said Democrats should begin with Hegseth. Trump named neither lawmaker, nor Republican Thomas Massie's expected Monday move to reintroduce impeachment articles against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
The only Democrat Trump named was Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin, whom he accused of vowing to target young people with Republican values. He seems to be referencing her Oct. 13 University of Chicago remarks about pursuing cases against Trump's enablers to deter young graduates from joining his administration.
