Trump praises Elon Musk as a 'genius' while defending him against potential Democratic probes

President Donald Trump came to the defense of Elon Musk on Friday, telling Fox Business that the Tesla and SpaceX chief has done nothing wrong and that the country should shield its geniuses because there are so few of them. The topic arose when Fox Business correspondent Edward Lawrence asked about a possible Democratic push against Musk after the midterms.

The exchange follows a Politico story describing how Democrats have weighed probes of Musk and the companies Musk runs, should one or both chambers of Congress flip. Musk answered on X earlier this week, writing "Live by the sword, die by the sword" and promising to go after whoever is actually directing adversaries, not just the figureheads.

Fox Business notes that Musk has given heavily to Republican candidates ahead of the election and helped start the Department of Government Efficiency at the outset of Trump's term last year. Musk's business dealings with the federal government could also draw scrutiny. Trump closed by shifting to technology, claiming America leads in everything and pointing to superintelligence.
