Trump says he will become ‘Mr Veto’ after losing Congress. But what will he be able to do?

Latest News THE INDEPENDENT POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

The Independent, BBC and NPR report that Democrats have captured both the House and the Senate, giving them investigative power over a White House that still holds a veto. President Donald Trump signaled his response: he posted an image of a red cap reading "Veto," even as he told the New York Times he would probably reach an arrangement with Democrats. The Independent adds that he told the Pod Force One podcast he would likely block bills for a month or two before striking deals, and that he has used the veto twice this term, versus 10 times in his first.

Overriding him takes two-thirds of both chambers, which the BBC says Democrats lack on their own. BBC reports that Representative Robert Garcia, set to head a House oversight committee, named Trump's family, Homeland Security and the Epstein files as possible targets. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has neither ruled in nor ruled out impeachment, which would almost certainly fail in the Senate. Rahm Emanuel told NPR that Democrats should favor an ethics bill, a stock-trading ban and a higher minimum wage over impeachment.
