Trump targets midterm voters with final campaign speech at Reflecting Pool

Donald Trump chose the Reflecting Pool as the setting for his last public speech before the 2026 midterm elections, a location whose recent makeover ran into difficulties earlier this summer. The president used the stage largely to talk about that work rather than about the contest ahead, according to BBC.

BBC reports that roughly the first 20 minutes of the address were devoted to the renovation, a project carried out by his administration. Only after that did he turn to making his case to midterm voters. BBC North America editor Sarah Smith attended the event and describes the president's pitch to the electorate. She also explains why, in her assessment, holding the closing appearance of the campaign at this site was a strange decision.

The speech came as the final stretch of the midterm campaign wound down, with the renovation's troubled history hanging over a venue the president himself picked for his closing message.
