WATCH LIVE: Graham set to debate Senate challengers Andrews, Whitener in South Carolina

Three candidates vying for a U.S. Senate seat from South Carolina meet Sunday evening in a televised debate, at a moment when the race looks slightly more competitive than it once did. Republican Sen. Darline Graham, Democrat Dr. Annie Andrews and Libertarian Kasie Whitener are set to appear at 7 p.m. EDT, with South Carolina ETV carrying the event live, according to PBS NewsHour.

Graham holds the seat because of a family loss: her brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, died unexpectedly in July after more than two decades representing the state. Gov. Henry McMaster appointed her to finish his term, which expires in January, and she then won the Republican nomination in a special primary. President Donald Trump encouraged her to seek a full term of her own.

Although South Carolina has long been strongly Republican, the Cook Political Report in late September changed its rating of the contest from Solid Republican to Likely Republican, a modest shift reflecting a slightly closer race for the seat her brother occupied.
