What Does Trump’s Declining Latino Support Mean for Florida?

Latest News TIME POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

Support among Latino voters in Florida appears to be slipping for President Donald Trump and Republicans as the state's midterm races tighten, and the shift could decide close contests. Trump won 56% of the group in 2024, according to the American Electorate Voter Poll, but Equis Research now puts his approval among Florida Latinos at 36%, down from 58% when his term began. More than 2.6 million Floridians have already voted, according to Time.

A Univision/YouGov survey taken Oct. 2–15 found 41% of Latino registered voters fear that they or someone close to them could be caught up in immigration enforcement, versus 27% of all Florida voters. Seventy percent of those Latino voters disapprove of Trump's handling of living costs, compared with 63% statewide. Stephanie Valencia of Equis Research says both problems hit Latinos disproportionately. Jared Nordlund of UnidosUS points to tariffs, the Iran war and gasoline prices in a car-dependent state.

Voters echo this. Johanna Chavez, a Dominican immigrant in Kissimmee, cites punishing rents. William Diaz, an Orlando Venezuelan who once backed Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, cast a ballot meant to protest Trump's immigration policies.
