Wiretap Caught Indicted Democrat Calling Weed Operation ‘Last Chance At Generational Wealth’

Latest News DAILY WIRE POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

A federal indictment accuses Virginia state Sen. Louise Lucas, a Democrat and the Senate's president pro tempore, of using her office to shield an illegal cannabis business. The 82-year-old surrendered Thursday; charges include racketeering conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy, and six others, some relatives, are also charged. FBI Director Kash Patel put her alleged proceeds at nearly $5 million, according to Daily Wire.

Wiretapped calls, the indictment says, show Lucas on February 9, 2026, telling an unindicted associate that pending recreational-sales legislation could let that person win a license and share earnings with her, calling it "our last chance at generational wealth." In March, she allegedly told a fellow legislator she needed a license to get revenue flowing.

Lucas calls the case intimidation, and her lawyers call the Justice Department's announcement misleading. Gov. Abigail Spanberger, also a Democrat, said the defendants deserve their day in court and criticized the timing so near an election. Agents searched Lucas's Portsmouth office and a related dispensary in May, under an investigation begun during the Biden administration. Her daughter Lisa Lucas-Burke, also charged, is seeking a Portsmouth council seat.
