Cruz-Vance rivalry heats up as Texas senator suggests VP is 'feeling insecure'

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has hit back at Vice President JD Vance after Vance said publicly that Cruz is already campaigning for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. In a Saturday phone interview with Politico, Cruz said that, in his experience, people throw political bombs when they feel insecure, and he added that Vance can say whatever he wants. The exchange shows open friction between two men viewed as potential rivals for the party's next White House bid, according to Fox News.

Vance made his remark Thursday on NBC News, declaring it obvious that Cruz is running at this very moment. Vance said he is not running himself and is instead working to get Republicans elected. Vance is regarded as a possible 2028 contender. Cruz, who sought the GOP nomination in 2016, told MS NOW in August that he would certainly be part of the conversation about 2028.

Cruz told Politico his priority is the midterms, with about 30 days left until Election Day, and he wants Republicans to keep both chambers of Congress.
