During anti-Trump protests, No Kings’ Instagram page got pulled. Platform says oops

Latest News THE INDEPENDENT POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

Meta locked the No Kings Coalition out of its main Instagram account on Saturday, just as the group's fourth round of national protests against President Donald Trump was underway. Close to 3,000 events were happening in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., many tied to a drive encouraging early voting before the November midterms. Meta says an automated filter, set off by very frequent posting, wrongly flagged the account, according to The Independent.

Andy Stone, a Meta communications officer, acknowledged the mistake on X, said service had returned to normal, and offered a sincere apology. Organizers say they lost administrative control around 1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, which kept them from updating supporters mid-event, and that even after the page reappeared publicly they had no backend access for about four hours.

Ezra Levin, an organizer, told MeidasTouch the page was unreachable for roughly an hour and a half at the peak of mobilization. He likened the episode to a Brazilian court ruling against Meta that he described as favoring authoritarians, and vowed that organizing would continue. Separately, White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told Newsweek that the early-voting emphasis showed the group should rename itself.
