FBI searches Beverly Hills mansion tied to former Rep. Eric Swalwell

CNN and Fox News report that federal agents searched a Beverly Hills mansion on Tuesday as part of an inquiry into Eric Swalwell, who left Congress earlier this year. CNN, citing two people familiar with the probe, says one of them identified the property's owner as a donor to the California Democrat, according to CNN · Fox News.

Swalwell gave up his House seat and his run for governor in April, following CNN and San Francisco Chronicle stories about sexual misconduct allegations; one former staffer says he raped her. Fox News says at least five women have made accusations of misconduct or rape. Prosecutors in Manhattan and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department each opened criminal inquiries. In August, agents took his electronic devices at San Francisco's airport and searched his Washington home the following day, according to CNN's sources. Fox News adds he was neither arrested nor detained.

Fox News also notes that the White House on Monday released declassified FBI records on his relationship with Christine Fang, a suspected Chinese intelligence operative. Swalwell told agents he had "physical relations" with her a handful of times, the last in March 2015.
