Key American industry seeing blue-collar jobs boom as Trump's re-shoring policies pay off

A new analysis from the Council of Economic Advisors, the White House agency that supplies President Donald Trump with economic analysis, finds that factory employment is rebounding. Fox News, which obtained the findings first, reports that 72,000 manufacturing positions have appeared in 2026 so far, driven largely by makers of durable goods such as metal products and transportation equipment. The advisors contrast this with the final two years of the Biden administration, when 200,000 such jobs vanished.

The council credits the administration's emphasis on bringing production back home, along with its tariffs. It also points to Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which lets manufacturers deduct 100% of what they spend on constructing new factories and buying machinery and equipment right away. The measure, according to the analysis, encourages companies to grow domestically instead of moving work abroad.

One example offered is Jergens, an Ohio manufacturer that expanded into Illinois using the deduction. Chief executive Jack Schron said employees are choosing to work extra hours and keep more of their pay. He added that 83% of his workers are taking overtime, since the law exempts overtime pay from taxes.
