Latino voters, souring on Trump, swing toward Democrats, new poll finds

Latest News CNN · NBC NEWS POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

CNN, NBC News and Fox News report that Latino voters, who helped return Donald Trump to the White House in 2024, have turned sharply against him and his party, according to an NBC News/Telemundo poll of 800 Latino registered voters taken Sept. 21-28. Asked which party they want controlling Congress, 59% chose Democrats and 35% Republicans. That 24-point gap is double the Democrats' 12-point edge at this stage of 2024, though smaller than their advantage before the 2018 midterms, according to CNN · NBC News.

Trump's approval among these voters stands at 27%, and about two-thirds say his deportation policies have gone too far. CNN reports that just 20% approve of his handling of the cost of living; NBC News puts disapproval on that issue at 78%. Fox News says 69% disapprove of Trump's overall performance, but NBC News ties that 69% figure to immigration, so the outlets differ there. NBC News adds that Republicans still draw more Latino support than in any of its polls before the 2024 cycle, and Republican pollster Micah Roberts said "2024 was the outlier."

CNN adds that a separate CBS/YouGov poll found Latino likely voters favoring Democrats 60% to 39% in their House districts.
