Leavitt says Trump is defying midterm headwinds as he barnstorms country

Karoline Leavitt, who formerly served as White House press secretary, says President Donald Trump is pressing ahead with an aggressive campaign schedule even though the political environment favors Democrats in the midterms. Speaking to Fox News Digital in her home state of New Hampshire, she described the president as defiant and optimistic as Republicans try to protect thin majorities in both chambers of Congress.

The party holding power in Washington has typically shed seats in midterm years, and Fox News reports that Republicans also contend with lingering inflation, expensive gasoline linked to a war with Iran that polls show is unpopular, and worsening approval numbers for Trump. Leavitt acknowledged that history works against the GOP, but said Trump is crisscrossing the country anyway, with stops in the Carolinas this week and another Michigan visit planned for the weekend. She added that he is urging MAGA supporters, who tend to skip elections when he is not on the ballot, to turn out this time.

Democrats sound energized. Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said in a social media post that Republicans are spending more in solidly red areas to hang on, and that his party has them on the run.
