New White House press secretary a 'devoted fan' of Trump and MAGA

NPR · Fox News, Fox News and NBC News report that Katie Zacharia has taken over as White House press secretary, succeeding Karoline Leavitt, who left in August. She starts as President Donald Trump's approval sags and Republicans brace for the midterm elections.

Her debut on Tuesday was brief, NBC News says. She spoke for under 15 minutes, mostly reading prepared remarks, and fielded questions from only Breitbart, Fox News and the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail drew out the notable answer: the White House wants Kimberly Guilfoyle out of her Greece ambassadorship over alleged misconduct. Zacharia described her job as amplifying Trump's record.

In an NBC News survey, Trump's approval stands at 41% among registered voters, the lowest of his second term. NPR · Fox News adds that the White House has curbed CNN, MS NOW and Politico's access, while the Justice Department examines the five networks sharing pool video. It also reports Zacharia once shared conspiracy-minded posts, which officials answered by praising her. Trump called her a "devoted fan" of MAGA. Fox News notes she formerly worked as a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.
