Ohio governor’s race roiled by new viral video featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother

CNN, MS NOW and ABC News report that Amy Acton, the Democratic nominee for Ohio governor, is fighting an unattributed online video in which her estranged mother, Donna Arthur, urges voters to reject her. The clip surfaced about two weeks before Election Day in a close race against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, according to CNN · Daily Caller.

Acton's brother, Philip Stearns, accused Ramaswamy of exploiting the sexual abuse she suffered at age twelve at the hands of their mother's husband. Ramaswamy's spokesperson, Connie Luck, did not say whether the campaign was involved, but called Acton a "serial fabulist." CNN adds that an official at V-PAC, the super PAC supporting Ramaswamy, denied making it, and that Vice President JD Vance is due in Ohio to campaign for him. The video carries no paid-for disclosure, and MS NOW notes AdImpact shows no money behind airing it.

ABC News reports that court documents obtained by The Associated Press show Cledith Arthur was charged in July 1978, pleaded not guilty and failed to appear at a hearing. Acton told Spectrum News the episode fits a lifelong pattern with her opponent.
