One Debate Question, Two Very Different Worlds For Letitia James And Her GOP Challenger

Daily Wire · Fox News and Fox News both cover a New York attorney general debate in which Democratic incumbent Letitia James had awkward moments against Republican challenger Saritha Komatireddy, a former federal prosecutor. The race unfolds amid James' long-running clash with President Donald Trump.

Fox News says James stayed silent for several seconds when asked to name a former attorney general she admired, and moderator Errol Louis of Spectrum News 1 told her time was running out. She then said she admired all her predecessors and later picked Bob Abrams, who served from 1979 to 1993. Komatireddy chose Dennis Vacco, who held the job from 1995 to 1998. Fox News adds that Trump endorsed Komatireddy in August, and that conservative commentators mocked James online.

Daily Wire · Fox News reports a separate exchange, when each candidate was asked what they had last read. James named Rep. Jamie Raskin's memoir about January 6; Komatireddy, a mother of four, cited a Spanish-language children's book. Daily Wire · Fox News also says she accused James of being a "political hack" and cited a fall in Medicaid fraud convictions from 97 in 2018 to 19 in 2024.
