Supreme Court takes up DOGE documents fight and an asylum plea from a chef for terrorists

Latest News CNN · MS NOW POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

CNN · MS NOW, NBC News and CBS News report that the Supreme Court agreed Tuesday to hear the Trump administration's appeal in a fight over records from the Department of Government Efficiency. At stake is whether DOGE is an agency covered by the Freedom of Information Act or a purely advisory White House body that is exempt.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington sued after the administration declined to process its early-2025 request, CBS News says. Lower courts then allowed limited discovery, including questioning of DOGE administrator Amy Gleason. The justices trimmed that order last year in a 6-3 ruling, the group narrowed its demands, and the D.C. Circuit let the slimmer version proceed. Solicitor General D. John Sauer argues the group would obtain much of what it wants before any court decides whether the law applies. NBC News says a ruling is due by the end of June; CBS News expects arguments in early 2027.

CNN · MS NOW adds that the justices also took up the asylum case of Izuchukwu Ozurumba, a Nigerian man denied refuge for cooking for a separatist group that carried out terrorist attacks.
