The Senate map expands (again)
Democrats are pushing into yet another Republican stronghold in the fight for Senate control. With two weeks until Election Day, Senate Majority PAC, the top Democratic super PAC, is spending $1. 2 million on advertising in Mississippi through Nov. 3, backing prosecutor Scott Colom against Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith. The opening spot presents Colom as someone who will take on corruption in both parties and labels the incumbent a "do-nothing." Spokesperson Lauren French said Colom's campaign has put Hyde-Smith on the defensive, according to NBC News.
Mississippi is the most Republican state the group has entered. President Donald Trump carried it by 23 points in 2024, and no Democrat has taken a Senate seat there since 1982. The PAC, which is allied with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, is also spending in Kansas, Alaska, Iowa, Ohio and Texas. Democrats need a net gain of four seats for a majority. Senate Leadership Fund, its Republican counterpart, is advertising in all of those states except Mississippi, and is also backing Sen. Darline Graham in South Carolina and Sen. Pete Ricketts in Nebraska, where independent Dan Osborn is challenging him.
