They wallow in Trump gunk 24/7. They say it’s necessary

Latest News THE GUARDIAN POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

A podcast built around Donald Trump's psychology has become a reliable draw for the Daily Beast. Inside Trump's Head, hosted by author Michael Wolff and Daily Beast executive Joanna Coles, debuted in August 2025 and releases three episodes weekly. Audio downloads have grown threefold to 1.5m monthly, and full episodes draw more than 5m views a month on YouTube, mostly in the US, according to The Guardian.

Episodes mix armchair psychology, gossip and commentary rather than policy analysis. Recent subjects include the exits of senior women from the administration, the president's weight, Melania's absence from view and the influence of aide Natalie Harp. Wolff uses profanity about the president, while Coles, trained on Fleet Street, is convinced the president's mental faculties are declining.

White House communications director Steven Cheung has answered with insults aimed at both hosts. Wolff and Coles dismiss those attacks as performative and defend their tone: "We talk how people talk." Coles estimates that a third of the Daily Beast's content and traffic hinges on Trump, and Forbes reported Wolff earned $13m in the first year of Fire and Fury.
