Minnesota says the federal government has quit handing over evidence tied to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two people killed by federal officers during the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis. State prosecutors have returned to court to press for an order compelling the material, and no criminal charges have been brought in either case, according to PBS NewsHour.

The state sued the Trump administration in March. Washington has hinted that Minnesota prosecutors lack authority over federal officers, while state officials say they cannot rely on Washington to examine its own personnel. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced in July that body camera footage and drives holding statements had begun arriving, and she expected everything. According to state filings, the flow ended shortly afterward, and on Sept. 10 the U.S. Attorney's Office for Minnesota told her the pause would last indefinitely.

In a reply filed Tuesday, Justice Department attorneys said they may decline the requests, pointing to their Touhy regulations, which cover formal proceedings, and noting that none was pending. Drew Evans, who heads the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said in a declaration that investigators still lack the officers' phones and weapons, Good's clothing, and several recorded interviews.
