Trump rallies in Ohio to boost Jon Husted in a tight Senate race against Sherrod Brown

Latest News PBS NEWSHOUR · ABC NEWS POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

PBS NewsHour · ABC News and ABC News report that President Donald Trump held a Saturday rally near Dayton, Ohio, to support Republican Sen. Jon Husted, whose contest with Democrat Sherrod Brown is among the most closely watched Senate races of the year. Husted was appointed to the seat vacated by Vice President JD Vance. Brown, a former three-term senator, lost to Bernie Moreno two years ago and is trying to return. The outlets note that Democrats probably cannot win a Senate majority without Ohio.

Tim Scott, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said a gap of a few points between the two men has closed to a dead heat. Brown and allied groups attack Husted over his part in bringing data centers to Ohio while he was lieutenant governor. A Husted-backed Senate bill aimed at making big power users pay more was blocked by nearly all Democrats.

Trump, who calls his tour a 32-day push before the Nov. 3 elections, said of Brown, "They threw him out of the Senate once before." In the governor's race, Republican Vivek Ramaswamy faces a close race against Democrat Amy Acton.
