Trump’s approval rating hits record low as GOP faces midterm reckoning

Latest News MS NOW POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

President Donald Trump has reached his lowest standing yet in the Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, with 33% of U. S. adults approving of his performance and 66% disapproving. The survey, taken Oct. 9-13 and released Sunday, found 52% strongly disapproving. Approval is down four points since July and eight since a year ago. With the Nov. 3 midterms 16 days away, that weakness is helping Democrats as they try to retake Congress, according to MS NOW.

Among likely voters in the same poll, 52% said they would back the Democrat in their House district and 44% the Republican, a five-point improvement for Democrats over July. A separate NBC News Decision Desk poll, also released Sunday, showed registered voters preferring Democrats 55% to 44%. In that survey, 71% of U. S. adults said the country is on the wrong track, and 67% called gas prices a very or somewhat serious problem.

MS NOW reports that the discontent is tied to Trump's choice to take the country to war with Iran and the resulting jump in fuel costs.
