Trump’s memorial arch faces new lawsuit from Arlington County, Virginia

Latest News MS NOW · ABC NEWS POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

Arlington County, Virginia, has become the first government body to go to court over President Donald Trump's planned Triumphal Arch, MS NOW · ABC News and ABC News report. The county board sued Thursday in the Eastern District of Virginia, arguing that the National Park Service is moving toward ground-disturbing work at Memorial Circle without completing a full review. The complaint calls the agency's insistence that no final decision exists a pretext to justify what the president has repeatedly demanded.

The board wants a judge to stop the rush so that environmental-law requirements, along with proper study and testing, are met. Board Chair Matt de Ferranti said the community stands to lose the most, and that Arlington cooperated in good faith but saw its warnings of serious, unique harms disregarded. Democracy Forward is representing the county. Neither the White House nor the Interior Department had replied to requests for comment when the outlets published.

Separately, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA's president, Sara Nelson, said Wednesday that the 250-foot arch worsens safety problems left unresolved after the January 2025 Potomac crash that killed 67 people. She also objected to turning it into a military site with drones, snipers and ammunition.
