Trump's oil and gas stocks gained millions during Iran war

Latest News CBS NEWS POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

Democrats on the Congressional Joint Economic Committee say President Trump's oil and gas investments have gained heavily since the Iran war began. Their analysis, shared first with CBS News, puts the holdings at $22.5 million to $81.6 million, against $12.6 million to $46 million at year-end 2025, an average stock gain of 43%.

The findings rest on Office of Government Ethics filings, which disclose only ranges. Between March and August, the president bought $4.7 million to $17.5 million of such shares and sold $2 million to $5.4 million. September and October trades are not yet reported.

Senator Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, the committee's top Democrat, said the holdings raise conflict-of-interest concerns. White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded that independent third-party managers run the portfolio through index-tracking models, with no input from the president or family. Regular gasoline now averages $4.29 a gallon, up from $2.87 in early February, and Trump told a Georgia crowd that the industry is "making hundreds of billions of dollars."
