Trump To Spend Billions To Beef Up Navy’s Submarine Fleet
The Trump administration is set to announce a package worth more than $6 billion to expand production of Virginia-class submarines, centered on a new shipyard in Maryland to be called Arsenal 2. California-based Anduril Industries will put in $3. 7 billion of its own money, and the Navy will add a $2. 9 billion contract. The site is Tradepoint Atlantic in Baltimore County, according to Daily Wire · Fox News.
According to Anduril, the yard will support about 3,100 direct jobs and 11,000 indirect ones, and will generate roughly $2 billion in yearly economic output, including $312 million in wages. White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said the project advances the president's maritime plan to rebuild shipbuilding capacity, train workers and cut regulation. Democratic Governor Wes Moore, who has clashed with the administration, praised the project as the largest private investment and biggest jobs creator in the state's history.
The facility will begin by making parts such as torpedo tubes, spread across two million square feet, and is meant to supply the Navy at high volume. The service now operates 26 Virginia-class boats and wants to add two annually. Tradepoint Atlantic managing director Kerry Doyle said the project revives the historic Sparrows Point shipbuilding site.
