Vance Has A Message For ‘Whining’ Republicans After Explosive Ramaswamy Ad

The Daily Wire, CNN and NBC News report that Vice President JD Vance has urged Ohio Republicans to "stop whining" and focus on winning, with 13 days left before the election, after a Ramaswamy campaign commercial set off a backlash. The spot, from gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy, features Donna Arthur, the estranged mother of Democratic opponent Amy Acton, calling her daughter a liar, according to Daily Wire · NBC News.

Vance told reporters in Cincinnati he was disgusted that some Republicans seemed angrier about the commercial than about Democratic policies. NBC News adds that he called its appropriateness not his concern. CNN reports that Senator Jon Husted said he would not have run it, and Secretary of State Frank LaRose said he probably wouldn't.

Acton has said her mother's husband sexually abused her; her brother, Philip Stearns, condemned the ad. The Daily Wire, citing the New York Times, says officials could not immediately produce 1970s records, though Acton's campaign supplied documents showing the stepfather was indicted and left the state before trial. Ramaswamy's campaign is spending $4 million on the spot, and the Daily Wire says he trails Acton by nearly four points in the RealClearPolitics average.
