Vance signals discomfort after report alleges Kimberly Guilfoyle tried to exchange access for funds

Latest News CNN · MS NOW POLITIKOOL · LATEST NEWS

Vice President JD Vance said he is uneasy with anyone trading access to Trump administration officials for money, after a Wall Street Journal story put Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, at the center of such an allegation. Asked about the scenario without being given her name, Vance said he did not like it and did not care for people selling access to senior officials. He added that he was not certain the case the reporter had in mind matched the description given, according to CNN · MS NOW.

The claims originate with Trump donor and onetime congressional candidate Eric Deters. He told CNN's Jake Tapper that Guilfoyle demanded $100,000 to clear an American Express balance shortly before her Senate confirmation, and he called it a quid pro quo. Deters said he had first approached her for help getting the administration to notice his tax and legal troubles, offering her $1 million once his case resolved. The Journal reported that she texted him urgently for the money and that he never paid. A lawyer for Guilfoyle told the paper she disputes that the messages are genuine.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, traveling with Guilfoyle in Greece, declined to address the reporting.
