WATCH LIVE: Trump awards Elon Musk the National Medal of Science, among other awards for tech execs

The White House is using a Thursday afternoon event called "Science: A New Golden Age" to bestow some of the country's top honors in science and technology on a group of prominent industry leaders, with President Donald Trump scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. EDT. According to the Associated Press, the gathering is meant to spotlight fast-moving change in research, particularly in artificial intelligence, which Trump calls super intelligence, according to PBS NewsHour.

The most recognizable honoree is Elon Musk, the entrepreneur who previously led DOGE. He is due to receive the National Medal of Science. Three other executives will get the same medal: Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang, who runs NVIDIA, and Lisa Su, chief executive of chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices.

A second honor, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, is set to go to two more corporate chiefs: Michael Dell of Dell Technologies and Satya Nadella of Microsoft.

White House spokesperson Liz Huston framed the choices as a way of making sure America stays out front globally, saying the recipients are helping ensure the country keeps leading the world in innovation.
