What Really Happened To The Democrat Senate Candidate Who Disappeared For A Week?

Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico vanished from in-person campaigning for about a week in early October, and a Daily Wire opinion writer contends the explanations fall short. Polls reportedly favor Talarico to become the state's first Democratic senator in nearly three decades, so a stretch of silence just ahead of early voting carries weight.

Talarico held a September 26 news conference in Carrollton, and the campaign says a September 28 New York fundraiser with Robert De Niro followed. On September 30, Talarico joined an interview with the United States Hispanic Business Council's chief executive by Zoom, citing the flu and a visit to urgent care in Dallas. Then came no in-person events from October 1 through 8, with a fundraiser and a symposium canceled.

Volunteer leader Alex Balderas told colleagues on Slack, according to the New York Post, that Talarico's diabetes was slowing recovery, though the columnist notes the campaign never said so. On October 9, Spencer Pratt relayed unconfirmed claims of a mental health facility stay; hours later, footage placed Talarico at ACL Fest.
