Trump rants about ‘loving meat’ and claims solar power fries animals during Texas midterm rallies: Live updates

President Donald Trump spent Tuesday campaigning in Texas, appearing in Corpus Christi and Lubbock to boost Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton and other candidates before next week's midterm elections. He falsely said Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico is vegan, which Talarico has denied, and joked that Talarico fakes enthusiasm at barbecues before being sick behind a tent. Trump also disparaged environmental rules with a crude epithet and asserted that windmills kill birds and solar panels fry wildlife. On Wednesday he is due in Ohio to appear with Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. Jon Husted, according to The Independent.

The backdrop is a difficult outlook for his party. A New York Times/Siena University poll found likely voters favoring Democratic House candidates over Republicans, 52 percent to 41 percent, and surveys suggest Republicans could lose their congressional majorities on November 3. Politico recently reported that some House Republicans quietly concede they will lose control. One GOP lawmaker told the outlet that Trump has turned the contest into a referendum on himself.

Separately, Trump took credit on Truth Social for Benjamin Netanyahu's showing in Israel's Knesset election, where no clear winner has emerged.
